Medical Projects
Kindness Connection has two separate focuses in their medical projects:
1 – Medical Mission Groups:
There are hundreds of small communities and towns nestled throughout the mountain regions in Southern Peru. Most of these populations lack basic running water and electricity and suffer from unsanitary living conditions and extreme malnutrition. Due to the unpaved roads and great distances between these villages and the nearest hospital or health clinic, illnesses and complications such as childbirth, broken limbs, appendicitis or pneumonia can have tragic outcomes.
Our medical mission groups travel throughout the Southern Region of Peru to attend some of these underserved populations. Our work serves a number of purposes:
-
Provide basic medical care to those who need it most.
-
Donate medications, supplies and equipment to underdeveloped hospitals and clinics to help them to provide a higher quality medical attention to the local community.
-
Work alongside the physicians at local clinics to provide them with advanced training in areas such as Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, and other important fields.
2 – Nutrition and Wellness Campaigns
Kindness Connection has created Nutrition and Wellness Campaigns at schools in the city of Arequipa as well as in the highland communities of the Cotahuasi Canyon region. These programs aim to develop social habits and healthy lifestyles among students as well as diminish the prevalence and high rate of alcoholism among both children and adults in these areas. Our non profit works with the local health department to coordinate a team of psychologists, nurses, dentists, nutritionists, social workers, doctors and other trained professionals who work with the local populations to address issues such as self esteem, values, oral health, healthy eating, family planning, sexual and reproductive health, communication and assertiveness, communication between parents and children, life goals and making decisions, choosing a vocation, physical and psychiatric development of the child and adolescent, family violence, styles of parenting, and many others. This team works to educate both teachers and students in these various topics, as well as train high school students so that they can work as mentors for the elementary school students in these focused areas. The team also works with the parents at these schools so that they are also educated on these topics and can reinforce the healthy lifestyles at home.
