Where We Work

PERU
According to Peru’s Ministry of Health (www.minsa.gob.pe), the lack of basic necessities such as running water and drainage, low incomes and limited education have all been determining factors in elevating the national levels of malnutrition, specifically among children.

This has become a severe problem in the highland regions of Southern Peru.  In the mountain region of Cotahuasi Canyon, for example, there is on average 44.6% of the population without water, 52.9% without drainage and 78.8% without electricity.  These statistics strongly correlate with the high illiteracy and malnutrition rates in the area. One of the larger sized towns within the Canyon, Puyca, has a 57% illiteracy rate and a 72% malnutrition rate.

In order to combat the growing rates of malnutrition throughout Peru, Kindness Connection has begun to work in the district of Arequipa, located in the Southern Region of the country.  We support schools with infraestructure, as well as nutritional and educational programs in impoverished areas within the city of Arequipa as well as in the surrounding highland regions. Our medical mission team provides aid and assistance to these populations as well.

As our resources continue to grow in the years to come, we will extend our work to other regions of Peru.

Extreme poverty in the highland regions of Southern Peru. Here the typical diet consists of merely potatoes, corn, barley and beans.

In outlying areas around the city of Arequipa many children are denied a formal education and are instead required to make bricks at a young age to support their family.
